Adult Immunizations
are offered:
Monday mornings
from 9:00 to 12:00
and
Monday through Friday
from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m.
The Health Department is closed for all government holidays. |
Influenza
The Ohio Department of Health
recommends the flu vaccine every fall for people age 65 or older;
women who are pregnant during the flu season; residents of long term
care facilities; and people younger than 65 years who have medical
problems such as heart, lung, or kidney disease or those with a
weakened immune system due to disease or medication.
Pneumococcal (Pneumonia Shot)
The pneumococcal vaccine is recommended
for all people aged 65 and older. Persons with chronic medical
conditions may be eligible for this vaccine. Persons under 65 years
of age with chronic medical conditions should discuss the receiving
the pneumococcal vaccine with their private physician.
Tetanus/Diphtheria
The tetanus shot should be given as a
booster every ten years for clients who have completed the basic
series. If you have recently injured yourself and it has been five
years since your last tetanus shot you should receive a booster
dose.
Tetanus/Diphtheria/ Pertussis
The tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis
vaccine (Tdap) is also available. Pertussis, also known as whooping
cough, can have life threatening side effects. Pertussis cases have
been rapidly increasing throughout Ohio in the past few years. This
vaccine is recommended for all persons needing a tetanus
vaccination. This vaccine is given to adults age 19-64 years.
Hepatitis B Vaccine
Hepatitis B is a disease that damages
your liver. Hepatitis B can be transmitted by objects contaminated
with blood or bodily fluids and through sexual contact. There is no
cure for Hepatitis B. The Hepatitis B vaccine protects you from this
disease. All adults should receive this 3 dose series of vaccine.
Measles Mumps and Rubella (MMR)
One dose of MMR is recommended for
those born in 1957 or later and has not completed a 2 dose series of
MMR. People born before 1957 are usually immune. You should not be
pregnant or get pregnant within 1 month of receiving this vaccine.
Varicella (Chicken Pox)
This vaccine is recommended for people
who have never had the chickenpox disease. There are 2 doses in the
series. You should not be pregnant or get pregnant within 1 month of
receiving this vaccine.
Gardasil
The Gardasil vaccine helps prevent
certain strains of Human PapillomaVirus that can lead to abnormal
Pap Smears and cervical cancers. This vaccine is given as a series
of 3 injections over a six month time frame. This vaccine is for
females age 9 -26 years of age. Women should not be pregnant when
they receive this vaccine.
Menactra/Menomune
Menactra and Menomune are vaccines
that prevent certain types of meningitis. Menactra is routinely
recommended for high school and college entry. It is also
recommended for international travel for adults up to age 55 years.
Menomune is recommended for persons over 55 years of age who need
protection against meningitis.

outside of the United States you may need additional vaccines.
